Description:
• A little about ADP: We are a global leader in HR technology, offering the latest AI (Artificial Intelligence) and machine learning-enhanced payroll, tax, HR, benefits, and much more. We believe our people make all the difference in cultivating an inclusive, down-to-earth culture that welcomes ideas, encourages innovation, and values belonging. ADP has a deep commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion as a global Best Places to Work,
• DiversityInc® Top 50 Company, Best CEO and company for women, LGBTQ+, multicultural talent, and more. Learn more about ADP's commitment on our YouTube channel: http://adp.careers/DEI_Videos
• ADP is hiring a Principal Cloud Engineer. This team owns AWS – core foundational connection for ADP – security/compliance, governance and fundamental tools that make AWS cloud work – in process of refactoring to make it terraform based and building out China partition
• Are you looking to join a dynamic, inclusive modern cloud engineering team with a culture of collaboration, hard work, fun, and belonging?
• Do you know how to enable scale, modern governance, and a cloud maturity model to drive a modern enterprise cloud environment?
• Do you want to help teams learn what is truly possible with cloud native solutions and drive innovation based on real data?
• Well, this may be the role for you. Ready to design what is next?
• In this role, you will build the tools that govern and manage the global ADP AWS (Amazon Web Services) Public Cloud. Data driven continuous improvement is how we enable best practices for our ~10,000+ engineers. Key goals for the Public Cloud Engineering Team include improving overall cloud maturity, helping team build resilient cloud native applications, delivering a secure and compliant cloud offering, and reducing time to market.
• To thrive in this career, you will need to know how to build a modern global enterprise cloud. You write code just about every day and are very familiar with git / GitOps and Terraform. You should strive to make those around you better while helping teams continuously improve based on real data. Modern cloud governance, observability, and cloud native application architecture should be very familiar to you. Our best Cloud Engineers are curious, have an engineering mindset, are not afraid to fail, and are continuous learners who stay current on new technology. We like folks that work hard, collaborate openly, and have fun along the way.
What You'll Do:
Here's what you can expect on a typical day:
• Scrums. We start every day with a scrum, working together to understand responsibilities, identify issues, and communicate priorities and challenges.
• Collaboration and Communication. We will work together to realize our roadmap, learn from each other, and build a modern enterprise cloud for ADP to leverage globally.
• Challenges. We learn something new every day. We need to keep up with the changes in the market, the demands of our internal and external customers, and stive to make today just a little better than yesterday.
• Learning. We are always learning and investigating open-source communities for best practices. The cloud world evolves rapidly so you must be willing and able to learn new things.
• Variety of work. We are driving an ever-evolving roadmap and support several cloud related domains. Your work will vary day to day, but common tasks include building self-service products for our internal customers to use, helping teams build cloud native applications the ADP way, mentoring your colleagues, and helping a team trouble shoot a production issue.
To Succeed in this Role:
• You will have a Bachelor's degree OR equivalent work experience. Prior experience that would give you extra comfort in the role includes:
o At least ten (10) years of recent experience as a hands-on architect / engineer in the public cloud space.
o Must have AWS – not accepting other clouds
o Writing code just about daily (Terraform / Python) and very familiar with git and how to build an enterprise grade automation toolset.
o Very familiar with Infrastructure as Code (IaC), Git / GitOps, and very comfortable working with cloud native solutions. We use most IaC tools here in various places – Terraform, AWS CDK, Cloud Formation, and Python to name a few.
Notes from call with ADP Manager:
• Need someone who has built core provisioning services in terraform and knows the bowels of terraform – need them to tell ADP the ins and outs
• Needs to know AWS very well
• Ideally someone who has done this at a bigger company or similar size (no smaller companies since this is a large global environment)
• Ideally someone who has mentored others. His team is learning this stuff now
• Personality perspective – someone with a personality that likes collaborate / likes to laugh (no jerks)
• Terraform, vault, bitbucket, python
• Terraform and python coding mostly (taking up most of their day)
• Not considering other clouds at all
• Need to be technical architect or high level engineer (the engineering part here is more important than the architect) / someone who writes code often (3-4 days a week)
• Can sit in NJ (Roseland) or GA (Alpharetta) – may be open to remote for a perfect fit (he doesn’t care where person sits but has some internal hoops to go through for a remote candidate)
• Will start as straight long term contract ( 1 year plus with extensions). Could convert to full time employment with ADP downstream.
• He sent video questions so will be asking them on the 1st round video q&a
You'll Love Working here Because you Can:

• Act like an owner C doer. Mission-driven and committed to leading change, you will be
• encouraged to take on any challenge and solve complex problems. No tasks are beneath or too great for us. We are hands-on and willing to master our craft.
• Give back to others. Always do the right thing for our clients and our community and
• humbly give back to the community where we live and work. Support our associates in times of need through ADP's Philanthropic Foundation.
